Over the past couple months, our very own Design Monkey, Ruthie Shellabarger has been working hand in hand with the Facing Project to tell the Daugherty’s story. The Facing Project is a nonprofit storytelling project that connects people through first person stories to build empathy and community.

The storytelling theme for this year is unity. Eight storytelling teams will bring to life stories of unity in the Muncie community on Saturday, July 28that 5 p.m. A local actor will perform each of their stories.

Donations will be used to produce a monthly radio show and video series so the project can further spread its 1,500+ stories to people who can benefit from them all over the nation. The donating process is fast, easy and secure.

If you haven’t already been following the Daugherty family, this is what the story is about:

The Daugherty family has recently gone through the unimaginable. Their youngest son, Christian, was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumor, at only six years old. The past six months have been the worst they could have ever imagined but our community came together to help in their time of need. Christian’s progress has been a miracle and the family has not lost faith through it all.
